SACRAMENTO  – The California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) today announced that Edgemoor Hospital in Santee, CA is the recipient of the national 2017 Gold – Excellence in Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

The award is the highest of three distinct levels possible through the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program, which honors organizations nationally that serve as models of excellence in providing high-quality care.

Edgemoor, a 24-hour skilled nursing facility operated by the County of San Diego, is one of three facilities in the nation to achieve the 2017 national gold quality award. Edgemoor currently has the highest federal designation – a Five-Star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It is also listed in US News and World Report as one of the Best Nursing Homes in the Country (2012-2016).  In 2013, Edgemoor’s Sierra Stroll program was selected as the Not for Profit Program of the Year by AHCA/NCAL.

The Gold – Excellence in Quality Award is the most prestigious of the program. It requires skilled nursing care centers and assisted living communities to achieve both the Bronze – Commitment to Quality and Silver – Achievement in Quality prior to moving to the Gold level. Applicants adhere to the rigorous criteria outlined in the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, a strategic approach that is also the foundation of the AHCA/NCAL Quality Initiative. 

The Gold Award is designed to elicit best practices from recipients in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, process management and results. Since the inception of the National Quality Award Program in 1996, 34 care centers and communities, including this year’s winners, have achieved this level of quality recognition.

Other gold award recipients in California include Pacific Coast Manor in Capitola (2015) and Stonebrook Healthcare in Concord (2014).

 Edgemoor will be honored during the AHCA/NCAL’s 68th Annual Convention and Exposition, October 15-18 in Las Vegas.
